Eid Mubarak from all of us at Wirenations, to you and your family!

As Muslims around the world conclude the holy month of Ramadan, depending on the sighting of the moon, Eid celebrations will begin either on the night of Saturday, May 23, or Sunday, May 24.

The occasion will commence this year as nations around the world take measures to cut down the coronavirus pandemic, which include the suspension of Eid prayers, outdoor festivals, and different celebratory events.

What is Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr means “festival of breaking the fast” and marks the end of Ramadan. As the fasting month of Ramadan comes to an end, Muslims are preparing for the festivity of Eid al-Fitr. But with coronavirus restrictions, celebrations may be very distinctive this year.

How is the start of Eid determined?

Like Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr begins with the sighting of the crescent moon (an afternoon after the new moon), so Muslim’s ought to wait until the night before Eid to affirm its date. If the crescent moon is not visible, Ramadan keeps going for another day. Because it's a lunar event, the date of Eid changes annually on the Gregorian calendar and varies depending on geographical locations.
